Our history

Imago has a long history of supporting communities, dating back to 1932.

We were first established as the Tunbridge Wells Council of Social Service in 1932, registering as a charity in 1964.

Over the years, Imago has grown and evolved, joining forces with several like-minded organisations to strengthen its reach and impact.

Key milestones include merging with Sevenoaks Volunteer Development Agency (2007) and VSU Youth in Action (2009), incorporating Voluntary Action West Kent (2008) and adopting the projects of 121 Youth Befriending (2009), as well as mergers with Volunteer Centre Tonbridge (2011) and Carers Support Ashford (2019).

In early 2015, the organisation rebranded from Voluntary Action within Kent to Imago, reflecting the breadth and diversity of our services across the south east.

Today, we continue to deliver high-quality, consistent support through a dedicated and skilled team, ensuring individuals and communities thrive.
