Young Adult Carers Coordinator
Ready for something new?
We are looking for a proactive and organised person to support Young Adult Carers, aged 16-25 years, who have caring responsibilities for someone in their family due to disability, long-term illness, mental health, or drug or alcohol misuse. You will cover Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley, so a car driver is essential.
Young Adult Carers have a lot going on in their lives. As well as caring, they are managing all the normal stresses of growing up… exams, friendships, relationships, work, money. They’re making decisions about key life transitions… should I go to university?... get a job?... move out of home? This can lead to concerns about who will look after the person they care for or guilt about leaving them. If the young person chooses to stay at home and continue to care, there may be additional challenges like applying for benefits or arranging respite.
As a coordinator, you’ll provide information and advice, and emotional and practical support to guide the Young Adult Carers through these times. You might help them prepare for job interviews, advocate on their behalf to get additional support at college or university, or to have difficult conversations with family members.
You’ll also provide opportunities for Young Adult Carers to meet each other at activities and events, or in school or college, where they can share ideas and provide peer support.
This is a 1 year fixed-term role. You will need to be confident, approachable and self-motivated, with the ability to quickly establish rapport with teenagers and young adults. Applicants should have relevant work, volunteering or personal experience.
