There are flexible volunteering roles within Dial 2 Drive:

  • Driving
  • Office Work
  • Marketing & Events

“Meeting new people, seeing new parts of my local area, and helping those who need it the most - that's why I volunteer for
Dial 2 Drive”

Volunteer Car Driver

Volunteer drivers undertake extremely valuable community work. They help people unable to access public transport attend medical and social appointments, while at the same time help prevent isolation and loneliness.

Flexibility: Being a volunteer driver is a flexible way of helping people in your local community. Some drivers allocate one morning/afternoon or one day a week to undertake drives, while others will commit more time. There is no obligation to accept a drive.

Reimbursement for fuel: D2D pay the pre-set government mileage allowance for the complete journey. This is not taxable.

Waiting time: Drivers are only expected to wait for up to an hour. If the wait is much longer than this, they can return later at a specified time and charge for the mileage (“double journey”).

Criteria for Becoming a Volunteer Driver:

  • you are under 80 years of age
  • you have use of your own car
  • you have a valid driver's licence
  • your car is appropriately insured, taxed and has a valid MOT certificate (for cars more than 3 years old)
  • you have informed your insurance company that you will be driving in a voluntary capacity
  • you are in good health

Office Volunteer

The office volunteer role involves answering the telephone, booking drives for the clients and contacting the drivers. The role is for morning/afternoon shifts from 9.30am-12.30pm or 12.30pm-3.30pm at Imago's Tunbridge Wells office. This role uses a computer system, so ideal for someone happy with a computer and who has IT experience. Training is provided.
