The impact of caring on all aspects of life, from relationships and health to finances and work, can be significant. Whilst many feel that caring is one of the most important things they do, its challenges should not be underestimated. Caring without the right information and support can be tough. We must recognise unpaid carers' contribution to their families, local communities, workplaces, and society and ensure they get the support they need.
During Carers Week, we will provide activities throughout the week for unpaid carers; we will also provide information to help others recognise the contribution unpaid carers make to their families and local communities, workplaces, and society. We want unpaid carers to feel visible, valued and supported.
Each day will have a specific focus:
- Monday: Launching Carers Week and promoting the Rights of Carers
- Tuesday: Health and social care - promoting Unpaid Carers within GP Surgeries and Schools
- Wednesday: Work, employment, and volunteering
- Thursday: Younger carer’s focus on Young Carer activities in Schools
- Friday: Older carers, including physical health and wellbeing
- Saturday: Mental Health and Wellbeing
There will be plenty of ways to get involved in the lead-up to Carers Week, such as participating in the events and activities promoted throughout Lewisham and online during the week itself. The main events will be held at our Carers Hub in the Glass Mill Leisure Centre.
