Club Games is the UK’s largest multi-sports event for adults aged 60 and over. 20 boroughs from across London and the South East took part in this year’s event, including a team that travelled down from Rugby. 700 people took part across 9 different sports over two days in iconic Olympic venues.
On Friday 27th September the London Borough of Lewisham was represented in Walking Football and Walking Netball held at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre. The Walking Football team narrowly missed out on getting into the semi finals having lost to the eventual winners and runners up, whereas the Walking Netball team swept all before them with 9 wins out of 9 to win the Walking Netball tournament.
Then on Wednesday 2nd October competitors descended on the Copper Box Arena on the Olympic Park to compete across 7 different sports. Competitors were joined by actor and panto legend Christopher Biggins who came along to cheer on the teams.
Team Lewisham were represented in Badminton, Dominoes, Short Tennis and Short Mat Bowls at the Copper Box Arena securing a 1st place finish in the Short Mat Bowls and a 2nd place in Dominoes. With strong performances across other areas that helped secure our 4th place finish out of 20.
In the run up to these two all day events we had Timed Swims which took place across London and competing areas, with Team Lewisham finishing in 4th place with a team half the size of those who finished above them.
Huge thanks to you all for your support. 😊
We look forward to 2025 with the target of beating our 4th place finish!
